Whether you are the crafty type (or a wannabe crafter), Wednesday Wine Night at Annmarie Garden is the place to be once a month. It’s a nice way to relax and share some wine and snacks with friends as you make an art project out of donated, recycled materials in the artLAB.
I went to my first Wednesday Wine Night only recently, though I used to be a volunteer in the artLAB. The projects are chosen each month based on whatever surplus of supplies the artLAB has available. For November, the project was a Thanksgiving centerpiece – a very unique tealight candle holder. Recycled ceiling fan blades were used for the base. Clever, right?
The project was relatively simple, even for someone without a crafty bone in her body (ahem). We each chose six tiles from among a large box of them – all in various colors and designs. While I won’t go into a lengthy description of how we put our projects together, I will say that completing the base involved a power drill, sanding block, glue, paint and hair dryer. Prepare to get messy.
Once the base was done, we tied the tiles on with raffia (so you could easily remove them from the base and use the candles individually). The last step, for me at least, was to hot glue a small jar on top of each tile to hold the tealight. Others glued glitter on the tealight bases as a finishing touch. I preferred a more minimalist, less glittery, look and opted to keep my tealights as is.
The result: a nice piece that I can hardly believe I made myself. I’m proud to display it in my house. Oh, and I met some really nice people (some who come here every month) and had some tasty snacks, too.
Wednesday Wine Night is from 5 to 7 p.m. once a month. Check Annmarie’s schedule and then come on down with a bottle of your favorite beverage and a snack to share ($5 members, $7 non-members).
