Sweet Sue’s Bake Shop & Coffee Bar makes an amazing cup of coffee and the sweets to go with it are extraordinary. I think I may have just found my new favorite coffee shop. I tried just one bite of the chocolate peanut butter cheesecake before my daughter got to it.
“I thought you didn’t like cheesecake,” I said as she asked to finish it. She answered as she took another bite, “I hadn’t tried this one!”
So, Sweet Sue’s is a hit. They nearly always have eclairs and cinnamon rolls as those are local favorites, but you’ll also find a mix of cakes, cupcakes, and muffins that change seasonally. The mini eclairs are big enough to share, but they’re so delicious you may not want to and there’s no right way to cut them as they fall apart into a creamy, scrumptious mess.
Though famous for their sweets and fabulous with coffee, this corner cafe serves breakfast and lunch as well. I’ve enjoyed the quiche they serve daily, but today I tried the mandarin wrap. It was cool and refreshing on this warm day, had a tangy orange dressing, and was so stuffed with lettuce, it helped me justify dessert.
For hot days, stop into Sweet Sue’s for fruit smoothies and addictive frozen coffee drinks. Feeling adventurous, try the frozen vanilla chai latte. It’s one of those things I’ll return for.
Summer or winter, this is just a relaxing place to be. Along a quaint old street of antique stores and small shops just a block from the boardwalk, it’s easy to park near in the large public parking lot and walk two blocks in. Eat inside, take advantage of sidewalk seating, or even take your lunch to go and enjoy it on one of the many boardwalk benches in North Beach.
You’ll be glad you came to Sweet Sue’s Bakeshop & Coffee Bar. Just don’t forget dessert.
