I already knew I loved their famous key lime pie, but I stopped by the Lotus Cafe in Solomons again this last weekend for the Christmas walk and was reminded just how great this little place is.
The seemingly simple menu had a delicious twist to each item creating unique and delicious flavor combinations that are anything but simple. Of course, that all appeals to me, but on Saturday I had my girls with me and two of them are picky.
No problem. The Lotus may appeal to girlfriends and coffee dates and a more refined palate, but they are absolutely happy to make adjustments. One daughter’s gourmet pizza was perfectly deconstructed for her and she devoured it and my other daughter thought her plain bagel with cream cheese was “amazing.”
My slice of zucchini quiche was the closest thing to my mom’s quiche that I’ve ever eaten. So delicious, I could have eaten another slice or two. Perhaps next time I’ll bring the entire pie home.
Set in an old house, you’ll dine at a table or perhaps on a sofa in one of the front rooms. Though we came and went, we walked by hours later and saw a woman we’d talked to still sitting there, reading her book and enjoying another cup of coffee. You truly can make yourself at home and enjoy the quiet and comfort of the Lotus Cafe.
Don’t let the size fool you. There’s enough on the menu to choose from and a long list of daily specials. Leave room for Kim’s famous key lime pie. It’s worth the calories. On weekends, stay for live music.
Come for breakfast sandwiches and great coffee, enjoy a savory lunch with a slice of pie, or even enjoy a quiet evening dinner with wine or beer. The Lotus will feed you well any time of day.
