Just off the hustle and bustle of Route 4, tucked away on the corner of Huntingtown Road and Stephen Reid Road, there is a quaint farm-style bed and breakfast called Open Gates Farm. The restored farmhouse is nestled in the rolling hills of Calvert County and has been voted the finest bed and breakfast in Southern Maryland. The B&B is a central location to all Calvert County has to offer, such as water activities, historic sites, museums, parks, wineries, fine dining and is in close proximity to both Washington D.C. and Annapolis.
Jenna Licurgo is the innkeeper and was born into the business. Her great grandparents owned the Trotter Hotel at the end of the train depot in Waldorf. Licurgo is a friendly, accommodating innkeeper who will strive to make your stay comfortable and relaxing. She also provides a full country-gourmet breakfast with your stay.
Also included in your stay are a full, private bath, access to the reading and DVD library, and toiletries. A full list of amenities can be found on their website. You can also enjoy spa slipper-socks and a fluffy bathrobe as you unwind in your cozy room. In-suite spa and complimentary concierge services are also available for guests of the Open Gates Farm. Appointments for these services can be made for you upon request.
From April-December the cost is $169 (plus tax) per night. From May-August, there is a two night minimum stay. The cost dips a bit to $159 (plus tax) per night from January to March. There is a no smoking, no children, and no pet policy at the B&B.
Sadly, after opening their doors eight years ago, Open Gates Farm will close on October 31, 2015. Licurgo is sad to see the doors close, but is optimistic about hosting guests through October 31. There is plenty of space available so make your reservation to enjoy this piece of Calvert County history. This is an ideal quick summer get-away without having to do a lot of traveling. Be a tourist in your hometown, you will not regret it.
