Old Town Cafe & BBQ: Real Comfort Food

By Tiffany Stahlbaum

Old Town Cafe & BBQ: Real Comfort Food Restaurant

The Old Town Cafe and BBQ sits in a small brick building on Old Town Road in Huntingtown. It’s so tiny and plain that it’s easy to miss except for the black and white sign near the roof. Though it may look closed most of the time, chances are it isn’t. This local BBQ spot is open seven days a week.

Old Town Cafe & BBQ: Real Comfort Food Menu

I went there today for a quick lunch to go. It’s small inside with just two tables, but there’s ample space in back for cooking and these folks take that pretty seriously. Everything is made right there on the premises from their pulled pork, chicken, beef, and pit ham BBQ to the long list of homemade sides and baked items.

This is no frills food, but it’s delicious. Even those eating at the tables ate from brown paper sacks, but their fingers dripped with sauce and they were smiling. I grabbed my sack lunch and went home.

My pork sandwich was wrapped in foil and still hot when I arrived. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sandwich so fat. It was so packed with meat that I could barely take a bite and large chunks of were falling into my napkin. This may be a bit messy for a first date, but the food tastes like home.

Old Town does catering and large party orders if you call ahead. The menu’s so big that one stop isn’t enough, so I’ll be back. The price is right, the food is great, and I have an entire menu to test out.

About Tiffany Stahlbaum

I moved to Maryland in 2011 after living overseas for 6 years. We chose Calvert for the award-winning schools, nice houses, and reasonable commute. Moving to the country, I really had no idea what I'd find, but have been continually surprised by the local treasures that I find not only in the local restaurants, but in the people, places, and cultures that make up this unique place.
