For a no frills lunch that’s quick and delicious, look no further than the Lunch Box Cafe right in the heart of old town Prince Frederick on Main Street. It sits in a quaint old building with wrap around porches nestled into several rooms there, unobtrusive, but not to be missed.
You’ll order in the front room with the menu overhead and the register just in front of the busy kitchen in plain view. For lunch you’ll find sandwiches, salads, and a soup of the day. Check that specials menu because that’s where their creativity truly shines. On my last visit, I had a grilled onion roll with artichoke spinach dip, provolone, tomatoes, prosciutto, and caramelized onions. Yes, it was messy, but it was also delicious.
Sandwiches come with chips, but you’ll choose your own and grab your drink before seating yourself. You’ll take a little metal lunch box with you to mark your table, then they’ll offer you a mint when they bring you your food and take the lunch box away.
If you’re craving sweet, try one of their super intense cupcakes, decadent enough to share. They have several home made dessert options near the register to tempt you. Need to take one home? They will package your food for takeout as well. They also do large takeout orders and catering.
Contrary to its name, the Lunch Box Cafe is also open for dinner. Though I haven’t tried the dinners yet, their menu looks delicious. Check it out. You won’t find their lunch time fare on the dinner menu. The items are upscale and complex.
I like this little place. It’s quick and easy, but good and the ambiance is nice. There’s ample parking in the back of the building and on a nice day, you can take a nice walk through old town to work off that cupcake.
