When it comes to carry-out fried chicken, people have their preferences. If it’s not the Colonel, it’s Popeyes, or something else. But if you’re looking for good fried chicken from a local business, look no further than Golden Chicken. There are two locations in Calvert County: Prince Frederick and Lusby.
I’ve been to the Prince Frederick location three times now and ordered something different each time. The first time, I got a teriyaki chicken bowl with rice and a side of shrimp spring rolls. I got it to go so I could enjoy dinner out on my deck. While Golden Chicken isn’t quite fast food, I didn’t have to wait long for my order (and, of course, you can call in a carry-out order ahead of time). They even had a stack of Bay Weekly newspapers so I could read while I waited.
I stopped in the second time for an order of fried chicken. I was meeting friends out at Running Hare for a potluck picnic. I didn’t call ahead, but I had a piping hot 10-piece order in no time. Oh, what a happy potluck. And the few pieces of chicken I had left over were delicious eaten cold the next day.
The last time I went in, I dropped by for lunch. It was a little busy, but not too bad. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich combo, which comes with a side and 16 oz. drink (price: $6.49 plus tax). I asked for coleslaw, but there are several options for sides. I ordered the sandwich plain, which isn’t my usual style. But the chicken was so juicy that it really didn’t need anything on it. The coleslaw was the best I’ve ever tasted.
Golden Chicken also offers some seafood options, as well as a Japanese grill menu and a few Chinese dishes. You can dine in or carry out. Though I always get mine to go, the restaurant is very clean and the service is friendly. I definitely plan to go back.
