With so many restaurants to choose from, I’m not one to return to the same place very often, if ever, but then I found the CD Cafe. Rules are made to be broken, right?
Wow. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary or something that sounds ordinary, but puts an extra special twist on it, then you’ve found your place. I simply love this food.
In the Avondale Center in Solomons, the cafe itself is tiny with only 11 tables inside, but it doesn’t feel crowded. Instead the space is comfortable and homey. Still, it’s wise to show up early if you’re really hungry or go on a night when you have time to relax in the Next Door Lounge, enjoying drinks and appetizers while you wait for your table.
I’ve stopped in for lunch and dinner, but haven’t tasted much of the menu. The specials sound so intriguing that I nearly always choose one. Chef created based on the freshest ingredients they can get their hands on and their own creativity, the result is amazing. I had a seared tuna steak one night, and though I can’t remember every detail, I remember that it was layered on top of vegetables and had a sauce that just blew me away. My latest lunch was a sun-dried tomato tapenade quiche that was unlike any quiche I’ve ever eaten and just heavenly.
My dining mates have ordered from the menu to their content. My mom loved her Shepherd’s Pie. The waitress will ask, “Do you like spicy?” Do answer honestly. This classic has a spicy Cajun twist that is wonderful, but hot.
Wine connoisseurs will enjoy the extensive wine list, so prepare to relax and enjoy your time. Don’t forget dessert. Like the entrees, the desserts are special too and so generously portioned, it’s easy to split one if you’re too full. It is common for desserts to disappear off the menu while you dine, so if you see a favorite, reserve it early!
Elegant, but comfortable, this is a marvelous upscale cafe with excellent food, perfect for a girlfriend lunch, a date night, or a business lunch.
