You may have seen signs throughout the county advertising Calvert Library’s upcoming Gala Art Auction. This year marks the second year of the fundraiser, and it promises to be a night full of fun, beautiful art, and tasty local foods and wines. I spoke with Penny Clark, one of the library’s organizers, and Kip AtLee, the current director of the Calvert Library Foundation. They gave me a preview of the event, and my husband and I look forward to the opportunity to dress up a little and spend an evening surrounded by other adults.
The Gala Art Auction will take place on October 25, 2014, starting at 7pm with an art preview and cocktail hour. Perigeaux Vineyards and Winery will have four to five different wines available for tasting, and a cash bar will also be open all evening, serving beer, wine, and soda for $3. There will be a variety of savory and sweet food tastings provided by local restaurants.
The Calvert Library Foundation has put a lot of work into creating a gala that promises to be entertaining and fun. A jazz ensemble will provide live music, and an art company from New York will run the auction. The auctioneer provides entertainment of his own, and guests are looking forward to an enjoyable evening with him at the helm.
Marlin & Associates is bringing approximately 150 pieces of art for the auction, and guests who purchase their tickets ahead of time can specify their favorite style or artist. The auction also includes sports and music memorabilia and items like a week in Cape Cod, a kayaking trip, a sailing adventure, a Pandora bracelet, and handcrafted silver jewelry donated by friends of the Calvert Library.
I’m looking forward to the chance to dress up a bit – organizers recommend you wear nice business clothes (slacks, cocktail dresses), but nothing too formal. My husband and I have babysitting secured, and we can’t wait to spend the evening surrounded by beautiful art, live music, and plenty of food and drink! You can purchase your advance tickets for just $15 at any of the Calvert Library locations, or pay $20 at the door.
