Established in 1958, Chesapeake Ranch Estates is the largest neighborhood in Lusby and one of the largest in Calvert County for that matter.
Location:
Chesapeake Ranch Estates has three entrances. The first is off Rousby Hall Road (called “the front gate”), the second off H.G. Trueman Road (called “the middle gate” or “post office entrance”) and Little Cove Point Road (called “the back gate”). Directly on its borders are Lusby Town Center, Chesapeake Hills Golf Course, and the Chesapeake Bay.
It has 67 miles of privately owned and maintained roads with names sticking to western and ranch themes, such as Tomahawk, Golden West Way, Catalina, Lubbock, Minot, Rawhide, Bronco and more.
Homes:
One source of pride for the Property Owner’s Association of Chesapeake Ranch Estates (POACRE) is the assortment of architectural styles. While a split-level or ranch style seem to be predominate among the 4,000 plus homes, a tour on the winding roads and through heavy tree cover might result in a peak at a hacienda, some traditional log cabins, and a handful of A-frame and multi-level brick homes. These houses sit on quarter to one acre plots. The current sale offerings start with a single level home in the interior of the community listed at $50,000 to a $900,000 home on the water overlooking the Chesapeake Bay.
Amenities, Standout Features, & Quirks:
Like the name “ranch estates” implies, residents have access to access to swimming holes, equestrian riding stables and trails, campgrounds, fishing, sailing, gardens, and a private airport – just to name a few of the amenities. It has its own water company, POACRE office, staff and security force to service the common areas and residents.
Nearby:
Outside its open gates are restaurants, grocery stores, major retail pharmacies, U.S. Post Office, and doctor/dentist/physical therapist offices. Solomons Island with all its restaurants, museums and outdoor activities is less than ten miles to the south. Cove Point Park with its pool and recreational sporting fields is with a five to 15 minute ride. Calvert Cliffs State Park is within ten miles to its north, if residents become bored with its own beach, playgrounds and hiking trails.
Schools:
While most of the elementary-aged children in Chesapeake Ranch Estates attend Appeal and Patuxent Elementary Schools, some homes on the outer borders of the neighborhood have their children bused to Dowell Elementary.
The same is the case for middle school children primarily assigned to Mill Creek Elementary School, students leaving near the back gate attend Southern Middle.
All students are reunited again at Patuxent High School as soon as they reach ninth grade.
Our Lady Star of the Sea, is a private school in Solomons Island which services students from pre-k through eighth grade. St Paul’s Methodist and Middleham and Saint Paul’s Episcopal churches offer private pre-school programs.
If you are looking for a neighborhood in Lusby, MD 20657 that seems to have a bit of everything then you might want to consider Chesapeake Ranch Estates.
