One of my favorite things about living in Calvert County is the ability to buy fresh food from the very people who grow it. Between Calvert County farm stands, farms, and farmer’s markets, you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables that are grown right here. Stop and look. You’ll be amazed at the variety available. Many stands accept credit cards, so it’s even more convenient to stop on your way home.
It starts in the spring with U-pick strawberries and continues through fall with pumpkins and mums. Even in the winter a few stands will stay open selling local honey, preserves, and cheeses. I’ve learned to look for peppers at one stand and peaches at another. Many farms have a specialty. It’s fun to stop on my way home, see what’s in season, and prepare something delicious from it. The food is fresher, the flavor richer, and I’m supporting a local farm. It’s a good thing.
Check out a farm stand as you drive by or go to one of local farmer’s markets. From berries to melons, juicy tomatoes and sweet corn, chances are if it’s on your produce shopping list, you can find it fresh, grown right here in Calvert County, MD.
If you own/operate a Calvert County farm stand be sure to let us know when new items are in season and we will make sure to pass the word along. If you don’t see your favorite stand on this list, let us know! Leave a comment below and we’ll add it.
