Loved by locals and made famous with their appearance on Cupcake Wars, the only battle inside this North Beach bakery is one of will power versus temptation. Happily for me, will power was the biggest loser and I enjoyed both a generous slice of red velvet cake and a delicious cup of coffee before waddling home.
Seriously good stuff is served at Blondie’s. Not that I should be surprised, but I’m fairly picky when it comes to sweets, so I had moderate expectations when I brought my parents here for a mid-afternoon snack.
I was happy to see several tables for us to sit and relax at. Even though it’s small inside, it’s comfortable enough that you could bring a book or laptop and relax a while, or bring your family for breakfast or a sweet afternoon treat.
I’ll definitely be back to try their breakfast and to have another cup of coffee. They do a latte really well and the friendly service made our visit even better.
Be warned: the portions are enormous. My slice of cake was easily big enough for two (yet I wolfed down the whole thing). My dad raved about his Texas Turtle cupcake, enjoying it so much that he didn’t even offer to share a bite.
The cupcakes may be famous, but everything looks amazing here and they even have a collection of cookie jars filled with extra large cookies, one featuring locally grown sorghum! Blondie’s caters and designs stunning cakes (check out the photos on their website), so big food events just got easier.
With a motto like “Enjoy a Blonde Moment,” you know that Blondie’s dishes up as much fun and friendliness as it does sweets and style. Stop in and you’ll get a bit of each.
