You know how it feels when you’ve lived somewhere for a while, visit a nearby place for the very first time, realize how awesome it is, and then get angry at yourself for not having discovered it sooner? That’s Bayfront Park MD (AKA Brownies Beach MD) for me.
If you haven’t been there yet, you really should go.
I decided to go out recently and explore this little park in Chesapeake Beach, taking full advantage of the fact that the weather is nice, but it’s still off-season, so I don’t have to pay the entrance fee. How I overlooked this gem, which I pass each time I drive to and from the Chesapeake Beach Railway Trail, is a mystery to me.
The beach is small and rustic, and I had the chance to look at the cliffs relatively close up. My favorite part of the park, without a doubt, is the boardwalk. Joggers, dog walkers, and slow ramblers with a camera (actually, that was just me) have a nice long stretch of boardwalk to enjoy that offers different views of the Bay and a glimpse at the well-manicured homes that dot the cliff.
I am glad this is such a dog-friendly place. I always bring my own bags to clean up after my two mutts, but I noticed numerous bag dispensers, particularly along the boardwalk. It’s also helpful that there are plenty of spots along the boardwalk where you and your dog can step off into the grass. I came alone on this first visit, but Reece and Blitz will join me next time for sure.
Until now, the railway trail was my dog walking place of choice, but I think Bayfront Park MD – at least off-season – is my new favorite place. I love having such a great spot only five miles from my house.
